FAA Color Vision Flow Chart

This is the newest FAA Flowchart about how color vision will be treated as of January 1, 2025.

There are now only three (3) CCVT (Computerized Color Vision Test) programs accepted by the FAA.  Most AME's will have the Waggoner CCVT due to the expense of acquiring one of the other available programs (~$8,000 - $15,000) .

COLOR VISION LIMITATION REVIEW

Download this Form to be completed and submitted to the FAA only if the you are unable to pass ANY of the acceptable computer-based color vision test and want an upgrade to 1st or 2nd class or are requesting a color vision limitation be removed.  About 8% of males and 0.8% of females have some color vision deficiency.  If you can't pass the CCVT you will only be eligible for a 3rd Class Certificate Valid only for Day VFR Flight.

The Ishihara Plates are no longer accepted by the FAA for color vision testing.  The FAA stopped accepting these tests and all previous tests effective January 1, 2025.  These plates can be downloaded and will enable you to see whether you have a deficiency in your color vision.
